World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) – 2026 Celebration
The IETE Student Forum (ISF), BKBIET, in collaboration with the IETE Pilani Centre, successfully celebrated “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) – 2026” on 19 May 2026 through an expert talk and technical visit organized at the 5G–6G Laboratory, BITS Pilani.
The event was conducted under the theme “Digital Lifelines: Strengthening Resilience in a Connected World” and witnessed the participation of third-year students from the Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) and Information Technology (IT) branches.
The programme commenced with an introductory address by Dr. Krishna Meel, Associate Professor, Applied Sciences & Humanities Department, BKBIET, who highlighted the significance of WTISD and shared key insights from the official WTISD 2026 message and preamble.
The expert session was delivered by Dr. Sandeep Joshi, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, BITS Pilani. During his insightful presentation, he discussed the growing importance of resilient telecommunication systems, digital connectivity, and emerging technologies such as 5G and future 6G networks in strengthening communication infrastructure across the world. The session provided students with valuable exposure to advancements in modern communication technologies and their practical applications in society.
Following the expert talk, students visited the advanced 5G–6G Laboratory at BITS Pilani, where they explored cutting-edge communication devices, research equipment, and ongoing projects related to next-generation wireless technologies. The interactive laboratory tour enabled students to understand the practical implementation of 5G and upcoming 6G communication systems. Students enthusiastically interacted with researchers and experts, discussing innovative ideas and asking technical questions related to future communication networks.
During the concluding session, Dr. Krishna Meel presented tokens of appreciation to Dr. Navneet Gupta, Head, Department of EEE, BITS Pilani, and Dr. Sandeep Joshi for their valuable contribution and support in organizing the expert talk and technical visit for BKBIET students.
Dr. Meel also expressed sincere gratitude to Dr. Chandrashekhar, Chairman, IETE Pilani Centre, for his continuous guidance and encouragement. She further thanked Prof. (Dr.) B. K. Rout, Director, BKBIET, and Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma, Principal, BKBIET, for their constant support and motivation in organizing such technical and knowledge-enriching activities for students.
The event was coordinated by faculty coordinators Dr. Krishna Meel and Mr. Manoj Bhat, along with student coordinator Vansh Verma (IT, III Year). Overall, the programme proved to be highly informative, interactive, and enriching, providing students with valuable exposure to resilient digital infrastructure, future telecommunication systems, and advanced research facilities.
