About the Event
The IETE Student Forum (ISF), in collaboration with the Digital Media Cell, successfully organized a seminar on “From Servers to the Cloud — How Virtualization and Containers Changed the Tech World” on 1st November 2025 at BPTRC Hall 1. The objective of this seminar was to enhance students’ understanding of modern technologies such as cloud computing, virtualization, and DevOps, which are transforming the IT landscape.
The session was graced by Mr. Ravindra Tanwar, a distinguished Software Engineer at Orange Business and an alumnus of BK Birla Institute of Engineering & Technology, Pilani (Batch 2015–2019).
Mr. Tanwar specializes in Cloud Technologies, DevOps, Storage Systems, and Open-Source Solutions. With his strong technical foundation and professional experience, he has played a key role in building scalable cloud infrastructures that power today’s digital ecosystem. During the seminar, he shared his deep insights and real-world experiences, offering students a valuable perspective on the rapidly evolving world of cloud and DevOps technologies.
The event began with a bouquet presentation to the speaker by Dr. Krishna Meel, IETE Coordinator, followed by a welcome address. The seminar was honored by the presence and support of: Prof. Dr. B. K. Rout, Director, Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma, Principal, Dr. Nimish Kumar, PIC Academics & HOD, Dr. Krishna Meel, IETE Coordinator, Mr. Sanjeev Sultania, Digital Media Cell Coordinator, Mr. Suresh Kumar, Technical Support.
Mr. Ravindra Tanwar delivered a highly informative session covering the evolution of computing technologies — from the early era of physical servers to the modern era of virtualisation and cloud computing. He explained how, in the past, companies had to purchase and maintain physical servers to host applications, but now, with cloud technology, developers can create and manage servers virtually within minutes.
He elaborated on how virtualization works, the concept of containers, and the role of Docker in efficiently running multiple applications on a single system. The speaker also explained what containerization is, how it differs from traditional virtual machines, and how it simplifies software deployment and scalability.
Furthermore, he introduced students to leading cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud, and discussed how these services enable businesses to deploy and scale applications globally. The session also included practical insights into creating virtual machines and running servers faster using Docker and container technologies.
The seminar received an overwhelming response, with active participation from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-year students who gained a clear understanding of how DevOps and cloud computing are shaping the future of the IT industry.
The event was efficiently coordinated by the following student members:
Mr. Vansh, Mr. Akash, Mr. Yash, Ms. Chetna, Ms. Diksha, Mr. Vinay, Mr. Nikhil, Mr. Nitesh, Mr. Shivam Sharma
Their teamwork and dedication contributed greatly to the smooth execution and success of the seminar.
Towards the end, Mr. Ravindra Tanwar conducted a short interactive quiz based on the seminar topics. Students who answered correctly received chocolates as a token of appreciation from the speaker, which added an engaging and fun element to the session.
Finally, the event concluded with a vote of thanks, and a token of appreciation was presented to the speaker by Mr. Sanjeev Sultania on behalf of the institute.
The seminar was a grand success, enriching students’ technical knowledge and motivating them to explore advancements in cloud and DevOps technologies.
